CIP’s 5-Steps to Faster Production

Custom Industrial Products, Inc. has been producing vertical lifts in Melbourne, FL for over 25 years. In today’s article, we are going to explain our 5-step production process in more detail.

As we have expanded over the years, so have our processes. The most recent change has been incorporating LEAN manufacturing into our production process.  According to Wikipedia, LEAN manufacturing is a production method derived from Toyota’s 1930 operating model, “The Toyota Way.”

And while LEAN manufacturing is not the focus of this post, it does serve as the core behind our 5-step production process:

  1. VRC Design Consultation
  2. VRC Design Engineering
  3. In-House VRC Fabrication
  4. VRC Pre-Assembly & Testing
  5. VRC Shipping & Installation

Our standard unit production process fabricates lifts most efficiently with the least amount of waste, allowing us to pass along more aggressive prices to our customers.

The infographic below outlines the manufacturing process from start to finish. A more in-depth explanation of the process follows.

CIP’s VRC Vertical Lift Production Process

1. Design Consultation

Our Solutions Specialist team is fully trained on products, gathering relevant project information from customers, and answering even the toughest questions. The process starts with the quality of information gathered in this phase. In this stage, our Solutions Specialists gather the relevant project information, determine load, travel, enclosure, specifications, and other details to determine the best vertical lift for the environment and application. At the successful completion of this stage, the customer will issue a P.O.

2. Design Engineering

At this point, the project details go from our Solutions Specialists to the Engineering Department. Here, the engineers review the project details and the customer specifications and create engineered drawings. These drawings, also called CAD drawings, take into account compatibility and safety & compliance requirements. The time frame for this stage can vary from 2 to 4 weeks.

3. In-House VRC Lift Fabrication

Fabrication is where the unit takes shape. It starts with raw steel that is cut to size. The steel then heads over to the welding and fabrication area where the frame is constructed. The shell then goes to our state-of-the-art powder coating area. After the shell is powder-coated in our standard Silver Gray or Anthracite Gray (custom colors are available upon request), the controls and wiring are added. This process can take 2 to 8 weeks, depending on the unit type and options requested.

 4. VRC Pre-Assembly & Testing

From fabrication, the freight lift goes to pre-assembly and testing. Our Quality Control Team pre-assembles each unit in our 110,000 sq. ft facility and tests all unit components and operations. This process can take 1 to 2 weeks.

5. VRC Shipping & Installation

After successful VRC testing, our Shipping Department organizes and crates each unit and its respective components, then ships them via FTL (full truckload) freight. Our goal is to deliver the VRC when the customer is ready to install it and not before. Shipping and delivery will take approximately 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the destination.

In Conclusion

As you can see, there is a lot that goes into manufacturing a VRC vertical lift. To learn how a vertical VRC lift can increase productivity and improve safety for your organization, contact our Solutions Specialists at 321-728-3355. You can also visit our website at https://customindprod.com/.
